The ‘Everyday Kachin’ Instagram feed is one of many methods DocArtsAsia employs to find and promote emerging documentary artists.

DocArtsAsia begins by showcasing their work on the curated Instagram feed and starts a process of establishing a long-term relationship with many of them. This can lead to inviting artists to workshops, providing online mentoring & displaying their work in print exhibitions.

The other key beneficial of this project is that the ‘Everyday Kachin’ Instagram feed is one of the best resources worldwide to understand visually what Kachin state looks and feels like. Around 90% of the images are from local sources, together with a few images from outside photographers. This project is helping to create a more complete picture of Kachin Land’s people, culture & conflict, which is still a near black hole on the web.
