Video HAÏKU Workshop

This workshop is an immersion in the art of directing a one-minute poetic movie. Students will take their inspiration from the Haïku, a Japanese literary style of an extremely short poem focused on the evanescence of all things. Fabrice Croizé will guide the group to apply this philosophy to a video art installation, teaching them how to convert internal images into actual images, expressing those in a simple and minimal form. The workshop will also afford participants an opportunity to give their poetry three dimensional form through an exploration of innovative projection techniques..

Fabrice Croizé is a video installation artist and a photographer based in France. He has co-founded with Sabrina Montiel-Soto, Calvacreation, which is an independent platform of experimentation, reflection and creation. Their innovative works have been exhibited and well received in various reputable art festivals such as Nuit Blanche in Brussels and festival Némo in Paris as well as galleries in Europe, United States, South America and Asia. As a solo artist, Fabrice Croizé performs live video projections with musicians and dancers. He travels since 2013 to share his poetical and aesthetic view with audience.

In addition to these regular workshops, DAA will hold special workshops as part of the Chiang Mai Documentary Arts Festival and Artist in Residence program. We will host workshops from local and guest visual artists and a variety of workshops focusing on many of the other skills needed by today’s documentary practitioners. This program will include areas such as web design, grant writing, marketing and publishing.
