Micro-grants for documentary projects

DAA members have many ideas for documentary projects that the mainstream media has overlooked or only scratched the surface of – we hope to make more of these ideas into published projects by providing small grants to cover basic costs.  Photos and footage from the projects will go into DAA’s photo agency, further supporting NGOs and independent media.

One of our primary organizational goals is to keep overheads low so that most of our funds can go directly into projects like these.

Applications for grants are being accepted for photo and video projects. DAA currently has funds to distribute, so don’t wait!

To apply for a DAA micro-grant send a one page proposal

including a paragraph or two about the proposed photo essay,

A basic distribution plan. ( Where the image or footage will end up, be specific as possible)

a few short written descriptions of images you will take

and a link to your webpage or online gallery.

Grants are just 100USD to help cover basic costs. In special circumstances we may give 200USD.   longer projects are eligible for more than one grant, if they show they used the first one to the max and clearly show what still needs to be documented.  Send an email to grants@documentary-arts-asia.org.

GRANTS FAQ

Q – My English isn’t so good, may i submit for a grant?

A – To be fair to English learners applications will be judged on content, not spelling and grammer.  Please make your idea as clear as possible.

Q – What do i have to do for Documentary Arts Asia if accepted?

A – Just follow through with your proposed project to the very best of your abilities is all you have to do.  Mentioning ” This project was made possible in part by a grant from Documentary Arts Asia”  on your site would be nice but is not required.  We may promote your project on our site, podcast or gallery, however you do not have to.

Q – Do i have to be a member of Documentary Arts Asia to get a grant?

A – No,  they are open to all.

Q – Do i have to add my images to the DAA agency if selected?

A – We hope you are interested to add your work, but you are free to choose.
