Documentary Arts Asia wants to reward Documentary Photographers and Filmmakers working with passion and conviction on quality projects in Asia.

Open to citizens of Thailand, Laos, Burma/Myanmar, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia & Malaysia who have been shooting professionally for less than three years and who will be under the age of 30 on the 4th August 2012.
Documentary Arts Asia is acting as the primary local partner for this year’s Foundry Photojournalism Workshop, which will run from the 29th July to 4th August in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The Foundry Workshop is an incredible opportunity for photographers to learn from some of the greatest practitioners working in the world today. This year’s amazing group of instructors includes: Alison Morley, Ron Haviv, Walter Astrada, Andrea Bruce, David Guttenfelder, David Storey, Ashley Gilbertson, Maggie Steber and many more! We want to reward photographers working on quality documentary photography projects in Asia and are offering the opportunity to be involved in this incredible event.
1st place – A free seat at the 2012 Foundry Photojournalism Workshop in Chiang Mai, Thailand. (One winner)
Runners up – A free seat at one of Documentary Arts Asia’s workshops of your choice. (Three winners)
Must consist of a link to a well organized documentary photo-essay (12-24 images on a single subject) complete with captions and an introduction included on the site. Separate from the link is a one page bio/CV attached as a .doc or .pdf file. Send submissions to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject as ‘Foundry Competition Submission’. The Foundry Workshop will be taught in English so all submissions and captions must be made in English and the successful winner must be capable of making the most of an English language workshop. We’re looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
Deadline is June 21st 2012. SUBMISSION DEADLINE HAS PASSED, RESULTS WILL BE ANNOUNCED 1ST JULY.
The fee for entering is just 100 THB or 3 USD payable by paypal, bank transfer or cash at the DAA center in Chiang Mai. You will be contacted with full details once your submission has been received.
The contest will be judged by DAA founder, Ryan Libre and DAA managing director, Matt Grace. Winners will be announced July 1st.
The workshop spaces are non-transferable and the prize does not include transport, lodging or food. If coming from outside of Thailand, Documentary Arts Asia can write a letter of support for a visa but can not guarantee approval. Please direct any questions to email@example.com.
